Finding a place to capture a sunset in all its glory, minus telephone polls, roofs and general clutter can be tricky, so it’s nice when you come across somewhere that gives you a clear horizon.

In this case, that place was Puttenham Common. It’s elevated, and all you can see in every direction is trees, and more trees. So all you need to do is setup the camera and wait for the magic to happen. In this case I wanted to capture the different stages of the sunset, the best sunsets consists of lots of orange, bink and purple colours, but I also like to see a very moody sky and love when you can see the complete roundness of the sun as it falls below the horizon.

Overall this is a good location if you want somewhere that’s easy to shoot, although there isn’t a lot of foreground interest to spice up the images, and while it wasn’t the best sunset ever seen, I’ve seen a lot worse sunsets.
